Winchester "mongrel" questions
I recently acquired what someone described to me as a "custom" .22Lr made by Winchester.
It is a mongrel of sorts. I don't have any pictures, but it has a falling block receiver, a barrel marked model 52, and what is obviously a custom hardwood stock with raised cheek-weld.
I've been told the model 52 was only produced in a bolt action. It was also pointed out to me that the name Winchester that appears on the barrel and on the receiver are written in different script (font).
I know this won't be a collectors item, and I don't care.
I am really curious though, if anyone can tell me what model of receiver may have been used to build my "custom" rifle? The rifle has an old-style open lever to open the action. When you move the lever forward, not only does the breech-block drop, but so does the entire hammer!
Yes, the hammer drops down into the receiver along with the breech-block, and everything returns when you bring the lever back.
Not asking a value. I think that may be hard to gauge, but does anyone know of a Winchester falling block rifle in .22Lr?

There are several possibilities. Hard to tell without photos. It was not uncommon to put a model 52 barrel on a single shot back in the day. Very accurate barrels. 0 -

I'm with Fordsix. Winchester Single Shot with Model 52 barrel. Probably a great shooter.
As slumlord says, Winchester made fine barrels. I saw a British Martini-Henry action with a Winchester barrel on one of the other boards.0 -
Does the action/receiver look like the rifles in my signature picture? If so, it is a Model 1885. 0 -

That would be it! I guess I have a Model 1885 "low-wall" with a model 52 barrel.
And yes, it is a GREAT shooter.
