Mann accuracy devise?; pix added
The CMP has been selling these for a number of years, basicly a 1903a3 action with a very heavy barrel by Remington to test ammo accuracy. I bought one several years ago, stocked it (it shot very well, .6" @ 100 yrds or better), that was promptly claimed by my youngest son [:0]. a couple of months ago I ordered another, this one had a depresion (divot, indentation) at the 6 o'clock position just ahead of the throat in the grove. I called c.s. and they replaced it, the replacement has the same indentation (clearly visable). now I've worn out my share of barrels before but have never seen this type of wear pattern, normaly the origin of rifleing just advances (throat gets longer) until accuracy goes south. but just in one spot???

Just a wild guess, but could this be the place for what we used to call "copper crusher gages?" Before piezo electric measurement was possible a copper ball of known hardness was used to calculate chamber pressures, i.e. CUP. 0 -

I have heard of .22s eventually starting wear at a single spot like that and it spreading gradually around the throat until the barrel is shot out. But not a centerfire. 0
