7mm08: 120 or 140?

I have a Weatherby Vanguard in 7mm-08. With a twist of 1-9 1/2, which bullet should perform better: a 120 Nosler BT or a 140 Nosler BT?

  As a practical matter, I doubt that it makes any difference.

  It's really kinda hard to tell what bullet a rifle will like unless you shoot em...
  A 9 1/2 twist will handle a wide range of bullets just fine....

  With that twist rate it should really like the 140's better. It would really like the Barnes TSX, and Tipped TSX bullets. They are a tad spendy, but if your rifle likes them, I can gaurantee you, that you will find no other hunting bullet like them...PERIOD.

  I think it would be random chance, not some theoretical calculation of bullet weight and rifling twist. In a hunting rifle, caliber, and bullet at least.
  
  I saw a guy shooting various 7-08 bullets into wetpack at 100 yards. He was looking for reasonable accuracy and good expansion for deer. He ended up with the 120 Nosler you are looking at.

  I use to run into these questions all the time when I was in the business. It was a real hoot! Most of the guys asking were to lazy and lame to even bother sighting in their rifles for hunting, they wanted me to do it. The only way to realistically answer these questions is to take it to a range and do a lot of test shooting, recording your results.

  I have a Vanguard carbine. The Nosler 140 BT is a winner in it. Just my opinion but the 7mm 140 BT is one of the best deer bullets going. I've shot 20-30 deer with that bullet in 7x57 and 7mm08 and never had a failure. Again my opinion but this bullet is second only to the Nosler .30 caliber 165 BT as best overall performer on deer sized game while giving somewhat lower recoil in the process.

  Like they say, you really have to ask your rifle. Intended target? We seem to be assuming deer, yes?

  I'd say try them both, in bullet styles that are good for your intended game animal, and you'll see the answer for yourself on the targets.

  Haven't used the 120BTs in 7mm-08 but the 140BTs shoot in to a half inch with my Cooper and are instant stoppers on pigs. Probably can't go wrong with either one but your gun may like one better than the other. I started with the 140s and stopped there.
