White Dot On Marlin Stock

I just bought a model 336 and their is a small white circular something in the stock about an inch from the sling attachment on the buttstock.

What is this and for what purpose does it serve?

  Yep- that is what it is. Do NOT try to use it as a mounting point for a sling swivel. It will pull out. Just do not ask me how I learned that, OK?

  That "bullseye" was used only walnut stocks. Kind of Marlin's trademark.

  Yup, just a marque like the Weatherby diamond inlay or Browning's gold trigger.

  The white dot is a tribute to anne Oakly. she used marlin lever actions in her shows, and marlin put the bullseye in their stocks to commerate her.
