Enfield in 45-70
I have a Navy Arms made (rework) Enfield in 45/70 made on the No1 MkIII action, don't recall if that's their "Frontier" named rifle but I like shooting it, quite the little thumper. I reload for a handful of 45/70s from the Contender pistol to Marlin Guide Gun so I'm familiar with the 3 levels of loads. To what level can the Enfield be safely loaded? I see the original chambering in 303 British hover about 45K. The Marlin Lever loads go 36 to 40K and the heaviest, those for the Siamese Mauser and Ruger No1, go 46 to 50K.
Commos sense and an older action are telling me to stick with the Marlin level.

I think you are right on target. The 4th loading is for trapdoors. Really the first. Usually one loads a specific bullet for each level so the you can tell by sight which rifle it was for or safe to shoot in. 0 -

Good place to stop, maybe not even Maximum Marlin.
Bear in mind that the .45-70 has a larger head diameter, more square inches for the pounds per square inch to work on and generate actual bolt thrust.0 -

[:D] My boy had to learn the difference between a Winchester factory 300grn HP, and a 405grn Buffalo Bore loaded for a Ruger #1. He's shooting my 9.5lb Siamese Mauser. The first round is the Winchester, watch his hat when he shoots the Buffalo Bore.
