    Chiappa is the European firearms manufacturer who makes Colt 1911A1 replicas out of potmetal = zinc diecastings. If this is what the replica sharps is made of, I would steer clear of it. My personal experience with handguns made mostly out of potmetal wasn't positive.


    EDIT #1, I owned one of the Italian made Sharps replicas years ago. It was a 22" barreled carbine and weighted a heck of a lot more then the 6 lbs that this 26" Chiappa replica is listed at.

    For $1595 I doubt it's made from "POT METAL"
    Lyman wouldn't carry something like that.

    EDIT, Read the ad close. It is scaled down in size so it weighs less. It is for low pressure rounds.

    It is the fancy model of the Italian model of the original US Li'l Sharps. Quality and steel construction is typical of Italian repros but price is about 1/4 that of the American made version, now owned by Dakota, I think.

    got one in 30-30 and is a neat little rifle double set trigger...have been reloading 30-30 for years with spire points , same with 357 so a neat little single shot is a fun gun...got it for a little over $600 with a couple of store dings on stock...now a dakota little sharps is priced in a whole diff range

    Whats the receiver made of, steel or zinc alloy?

    I read the freaken ad! I asked Spasmcreek who posted that he owned a Chiappa what the receiver was made of. No rocket science involved here. Either the receiver on the Chiappa is made out of steel or pot metal.

    Sad to say, I cannot find anything in print or www to prove to you that the Li'l Sharps is made of real steel, but considering that the reciever is a stressed part in a falling block and they make it up to .30-30, I figure it would not logically be zinc.
    It sure LOOKS like case hardened steel* and WEIGHS like steel in the couple I have handled.

    *I have not yet seen the shiny Lyman version in person, just the basic case hardened Chiappa/Charles Daly/Li'l Sharps gun.

    i have had a charles daley little sharps in 44-40 for a while now and i can tell you it,s made of steel and not pot metal.i shoot the same reloads in the little sharps as i do in my winchester 1892,s and a new marlin cowboy 94 in 44-40,10-12grs uniq with a 200gr hornady xtp. i have well over 500 rounds thru the little sharps with no ill effect and its as tight today as the day i bought it. eastbank.

    I was going to mention the Charles Daly. I see them around for about $700.00 or so used, seems like a neat little gun as does the Lyman.

    It should be easy enough to ask for steel specs on the receiver.
