Any evaluation of Bushmaster AR 7.62x39 upper for reliability, etc?

  Not likely you will have problems with any make of mil-spec upper. It's the ammo you have to watch out for. Some of the inexpensive East Bloc ammo still floating around has corrosive primers, also some have lacquer coated steel cases that will foul the chamber during rapid fire. Some of the 7.62 X 39 ammo sold under the Wolf name has plastic coated steel cases. I don't know if the plastic coating would cause the same problems as the old lacquer coated ammo. The chamber tolerances on AR's are tighter then AK's, also the direct impingement gas system of the AR might contribute to the problems with some of the commie ammo.

  Thank you rife-snow. For some reason I want either a Mini-30 or an upper to go with my AR. Must be old age causing this.

  I have a 7.62x39 Colt AR upper with the A2 sights which functions well and is accurate. It handles steel case, brass case commercial, and handloads equally well. Availability of magazines is the problem as I've heard C-Products is no longer in production.

  I recently had to get one too, and found a great-shape blued Mini-30 for 300 bucks so I got it instead of the AR upper. Fun to plink with and a bit more oomph than the Mini-14. They're also making/shipping Ruger factory mini-30 mags, which is a must with these things as off-brand mags are usually jam-o-matics in both Mini flavors. Oh, and this gun needed a stronger hammer spring to reliably fire Chinese/Russian ammo, so I got one from Wolff. I haven't heard of 7.62x39 AR uppers having this issue, however.

  USA makes magazines for 7.62x39 AR uppers that work great.
