winchester model 37?

ok i am looking at model 37 takedown 12ga locally. he is asking 150$ his pics are kinda crappy but guns looks maybe 50% cond +/-. Value really is not my question. But he has it has a 28" barrel is this correct? i looked a few other full choke version and they had a 30" barrel. So what is the proper barrel length. And from what i have read up on they are a relitively cheap gun. will it hurt value if i have cleaned up. IE: stock refinished and gun reblue. just to have a nice clean gun. nothing more nothing less

    The Model 37 is not a "take down" per se... instead it is a single shot break-open action.

    In 50% condition, it is a $75 gun. They were standard with a 30" barrel, but were offered in 28" and 32" at no extra cost. They were also offered in MOD and CYL (special order only) at no extra cost.

    It would (in my opinion) be a colossal waste of $$$ to refinish a Model 37. After paying someone a few hundred $$$ to do the work, the gun would still be worth approximately $75.

    ok bert thanks. only reason i added a "takedown" is that is what he is calling it. and from what i read there were a few diff types if that is right word for it. so i took it at face value. So if i traded a standard mossy shotty and left alone prob a equal deal? not that i really need or want it. just something diff to put in the collection i have now.

    Per your description of the 37, you be better off keeping the Mossberg. No collectors value in that condition, 20 years down the line still won't have any.


    EDIT #1, Nothing wrong with 37's, they have quite a collectors following nowadays. Specially the smaller gauges in excellent condition. A very well used 12 just isn't going to be worth much. If you can get it at a utility gun price for less then $75, go for it.
