RM 8-87, Who was this guy?
I have a custom Sako Forester with a Shilen barrel.
In addition to the chamber marking (.308 Win.) it has the following stampings:
"RM 8-87 SXX"
Not sure about the SXX, but I assume that RM was the gunsmith and 8-87 the date the work was done, possibly somewhere in the Northeast.
I'd like to find out who the builder might have been. I've gone through a couple of lists of custom gunsmiths but have yet to come up with a possible match.
Anyone know of an "RM" who would have been putting together custom rifles in the late '80's??

might try the sako collector forums. {Elsewhere}. But if there is a sako smith they would know him. Btw which action is it built on? being a forester i would say either L579 or AII.

Love the name. There are a lot of them out there, but I can't find indication that any of them were 'smiths.
Think I'll borrow the name for my first born, though.
Wait a minute. 30 years too late for that. Oh well.
