Rear Sight Disassembly 1903 Springfield

I recently purchased a 1903-A1 Springfield. The rear sight windage adjustment (Not for the 1903-A3.)does NOT appear to be working. (Threads are most likely stripped.) I want to purchase some replacement parts - but not more than I need. Also, how does the rear sight adjustment knob disassemble? I keep turning it, even with pliars, but it does not come out. If anyone can tell me how to take this off and what replacement parts I need certainly would be appreciated.
