T/C Encore hammer issue

Here's my issue. I bought a slightly used Encore Pro Hunter 50 cal barrel. When I installed it on the frame I couldn't pull the hammer back. I've encountered the problem with the bolt between the stock and frame going in to far and needing to have some washers, that's not it. I've tried different things with that and different stocks, with no answer. I can put on a regular Encore 50 cal barrel and it's fine, just as with all the other barrels. If I push the interlock (I think that's what it's called) without a barrel on, it will cock fine. My daughter just used this gun with a .243 barrel this weekend to shoot a deer, so it's working in other configurations.

I've read that the Pro Hunter and "regular" Encore are supposed to be totally interchangable so I doubt if this is the issue.

Anyone have an idea on what the issue might be?

Could it have anything to do with the breech assemblys being different types? The old one is what I would call traditional. The new one just turns a quarter turn and lifts out. Thanks in advance.

  My experience is with centerfire T/C products, not BP. If there is a barrel difference unique to the T/C BP items this may not apply.
  
  The problem you describe is not rare, it results from the top of the barrel's locking bolts not fitting to the frame (under the shelf ledge) sufficiently to activate a safety that prevents the gun from being fired if the bolts don't have enough "purchase" under the frame.
  
  If you examine the leading lower edge of the Encore you should see a small tab almost sticking out from under the shelf where the locking bolts would snap into place. When the bolts snap into place they push that tab to the rear, it allows the hammer to be cocked. You can push it in by hand to ensure you're looking at the correct part.
  
  If the top bearing surface of the locking bolts are "too proud" they hit the edge of the ledge and stop before they move that tab back far enough to allow the hammer to be cocked. The fix is fairly simple and that is to remove the locking bolts, dress them down just a bit (really, just a very slight amount) and this will allow the bolts to lock fully in place.
  
  Some folks use a stone, others wet 'n dry paper - I do the stone and a polish with wet 'n dry and it works fine. easy fix if you don't over do it.

  Ok, I read your answer and that all makes sense. For now I switched out the locking bolts with bolts from another barrel and it works as long as I close it pretty firmly. After the season when I have some time to sit down with it, I'll work on the bolts but for now it's working as long as I'm careful how I shut it.

  You might be able to use the bolts as is on the other barrel. If you need additional bolts T/C may sell them to you, not sure if they still offer them or if they've gone to "factory only" being allowed. It's an easy job to do, glad it's working out.
