Defective Mags???????????
I just purchased a new M&P45 with the 10 round mags. Neither mag will accept the 10th round! I would guess it's a spring problem, but since both of them only hold 9 rounds, I'm not sure. The compact model of this pistol has an 8 round mag. S&W will replace the mags, but I am wondering if any of you guys have heard of this problem, and/or have a solution to the problem. Thanks!!!

Can you use a dowel, etc. and push the mag follower down All The Way ?
Could be a dent/dimple/etc. in the mag keeping it from going all the way down...0 -

I've had this problem with certain mags in the past. You might leave them loaded with 9 rounds for a period of time. Hopefully this would cause the follower spring tension to lessen, enabling you to get all ten in the mag. 0 -
I've found on other mags that if you force the last round in and separately load the chamber, the top round may not feed.
Check that out before you have to rely on it.0 -
Are you sure these are not really 9+1 mags being advertised as 10rds? I have run into that with some factory mags. 0 -
Thank all of you for the help!!! I just mailed them back to S&W for replacement. I tried the dowel and I disassembled both of them. The only thing I can think of is that they may have used the wrong springs. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come with my FIRST S&W M&P 45.
I've bought Smith revolvers since the early 70's, but never owned a Smith semi auto. Maybe I should have been happy with my XD 45.

Cheaper Than Dirt lists 8,10 and 14 round mags for the S&W M&P 45.
I would expect the ten rounder to take ten rounds plus a little extra to permit inserting the mag in the pistol with the slide closed.

Don't get disturbed, and think it is just S&W. I had the same problem with a brand new Colt gold Cup Trophy. Both factory mags...last round. I put in some Wilson's, and it runs flawlessly.

A lot of malfunctions seem to have been caused when it was possible to get the last round in only by cramming. It is often not possible to fully insert the magazine with the slide closed, and when inserted with the slide open, I've seen the top round actually stop the slide. I believe the Brits had a rule about only loading a Hi-Power magazine with 12 rounds, and filling SMG mags to a few rounds short of capacity, whether the last round needed to be crammed or not.
IMHO, in a personal defense situation, it's the sureness of the first few rounds that are important, not the availability of an extra round at the bottom.0 -
