Vintage Colt 45

I have a 5 digit Colt 45 serial no.995XX made I believe in 1912 ,complete with holster,two tone mags,mag pouch(1913) and leather belt with copper buckle.Inside the grips are etched the names of two guys who carried it.One name has his service number begining with zero (officer I believe).It's all original and the bluing is turning a nice patina.I have no desire to sell but it must be fairly rare to see one made in 1912,most vintage ones that appear on gunbroker seem to be from the 1914,1915 to 1917 era.I read the sticky on posting pictures but it's still Greek to me,I can manage to post pics on gunbroker but this site is alot more complicated(to me anyway)Maybe my grandson can figure it out for me,I'd like to share them with you.

  Dave, you are correct, earlier M1911's in original condition are relatively rare, especially in nice condition. Yes, we really need to see photos, showing all markings, especially on the barrel. Patina is good for antiques, bad for guns; so, we really need to see it. Markings by GI's on the back of grips are usually bad, as it often means the grip screws & bushings have been mutilated by make-shift tools.

  Hello It took me 2 years before I was successful in posting pictures on the forum side if you double click on my user name and send me a personal email with your email address Then we can share pictures. Your pistol should have double diamond wood grips and an almost glossy finish . The Barrel should have two ;letters visible when looking at the top of barrel with the slide closed looking at the ejection port the letter P closest to the muzzle and the letter H closest to the rear sight.Serial 995xx was shipped may 7th 1914on of a 10,000 pistol shipment not in 1912. Your pistol should have inspector mark in the form of a monogram of three letters WPG in a circle this was Major Walter G.Penfield we would love to see pictures Cheers
