S&W Model 41-1
I have had a model 41-1 for years and since I am very elderly I am going to sell it. A friend of many years wants the gun but insists on paying the market price as of now. I don't have any idea of its value although I know they are somewhat rare. The gun has a 7 3/8" barrel with muzzle brake, in the box with instructions, extra magazine, and has parts to put on the end of the barrel if the muzzle brake is removed. All original and excellent or better. I also have a factory letter from Jenks? authenticating the gun left the factory as a model 41-1 in 22 short. It also has the firing indicator pin.
Any help on what price to tell my friend would be appreciated. Thanks

I have the same model but not in the highly desireable 22 short. Mines is in great condition but no box and I paid $750 for it a few years back, which was about market.
Since yours is with a box, with documentation, and all the factory goodies I would say that around here a collector might pay somewhere between $1500 and $1800 depending on inspection.
Others may disagree but you do have a very scarce example. You might want to get an opinion on the S&W collector forum.0 -
First off the model 41 in 22 short is Rare. However You need to be SURE the gun is actually a 22 Short. Does the box Label on the end denote that it is 22 Short[?][?][?] Secondly the 22 short has a Aluminum slide does your pistol have an aluminum slide [?][?] you can tell this if a magnet sticks to it or not . The aluminum slide will have a steel insert same as a steel slide and the barrel also should say 22 Short and a 22 Long Rifle should not chamber. We really need pictures to tell you what a valid value is.

Where do I find this S&W Forum. Also, tell me how to put pictures on this forum and I will do so. The barrel is marked for 22 short cartridge, the slide is aluminum. The letter from S&W is dated in 1985. The end of the box says 41-1 but it is badly faded but you can make it out. It still has the original cleaning tools etc. in the box and the orange chamber blocker. I think I bought this gun new, but it has been so long ago, cannot say for sure. I have had it at least 35 years but don't ever remember shooting it. The gun is 98% or better. The label on the end of the box was put on upside down but the serial number matches the gun. I know it is rare and unique, I just want to be fair to both myself and my friend. Thanks for any help. 0 -
I collect Match pistols if you double click on my user name then send me a personal Email I can reply and then we can exchange Jpeg pictures . It took me two years to learn to post pictures on the forum side but if you look at the top few post marked STICKY it will have a subject "HOW TO POST PICTURES" . IMHO if you want the pistol to either keep or shoot the price would be one figure but if you want to buy to make money in resale then tell your friend you will split every thing over $1000.00 you do the work of setting up to sell here and most likely the gun will sell for $1500.00 + or - 0
