flashlite advice
I havent kept up with the world of high tech flashlites. I want to buy a 2 battery model, either C cells or D cells. Ive heard all the terms such as xeon bulbs, krpton, LED etc etc. What should I get. I really appreciate the advice I get on this forum , so thanx in advance. I need some bright ideas.

I've switched from a Maglite to the Streamlight models, which use the (expensive) lithium CR123A batteries. I carry the small ones in a belt pouch, so I always have it with me. They have short battery life (except the newer LED models get more battery life), & they produce much more illumination when you need it.

The really good flashlights cost a lot, but, if your life is on the line, you pay whatever it costs.

I put LED bulbs in my 4-C&D cell Mag lites. Much brighter now, and longer battery life. The C cell was very dim and the LED bulb is as bright as after new batteries installed. 0 -
If money is no object, go with SureFire. They are built anvil tough....i haven't been able to destroy many of them, and my little brother TxLawDog liked to bang his G3L on the wall while lit to show just how tough the lights are.
When it comes to batteries, find a SureFire dealer. The batteries retail about $2 each from SureFire dealers. Dozen is cheaper a little, and the SureFire batteries are made for high drain devices such as flashlights. Kind of like using a marine battery to try to start a car-usually it won't due to lack of power-so the lights actually run better.
And remember, each ONE of those little 123 lithium cells has the power of TWO larger batteries in it........
The new G2X pro series runs 2 1/2 hours or better at 200 real lumens, and something like 45 at 15 lumens. Of course, at about $95 they are expensive, but worth it.0 -

Get a good LED light-you'll never have to replace the bulb, and batteries last much longer.
There are quality lights that use AAA or AA batteries, which are available everywhere. There are single AA models that are brighter than the "D" cell Maglites.0 -
Streamlight or Surefire. I have a ton of lights.
I have 3 of the G2X's and they are amazing and I got great deals on them. GF has one, I pretty much keep one in my pocket and 1 in my bag that goes everywhere with me.
This little light easily fits in your pocket (so you always have it with you not left in the car) and is easily 10x as bight as a 3D Maglite and easily 2x as bright as 3D LED Maglite (have them at work).
I have a Streamlight Polytac HP that I really like too. It has a tighter beam that shines further then my G2X's. I tried it in my pocket for a while but it has a larger bezel and does not pocket well. I keep it in my bag that stays in the car.
The batteries really dont cost that much more if you buy them in bulk and the run time is longer and the light is brighter. I buy a 50 pack about once a year (lots of lights and use) and last time was $60 shipped.
It really comes down to how big of a light do you want and how much light do you want. For me I cant see buying a light the size of the mag when it is hard to carry and puts out less light then my small one.0 -
Got the Maglite 3 cell LED and really like it. Made in USA and tough. Also converted a Maglite 4 C cell to LED.....works great.....they are tough !!!

I know this sounds cheezy....but try to find a RayOVac Sportsman Extreme. Hard to find in stores but you can find one on the internet. 3 cell C light. Aluminum body. Very bright. I think it puts out 120 Lumens.
Best of all....about $25.0 -
If you want equal or greater brightness than a streamline or surefire but DON'T want to keep buying expensive throw-away batteries, then you want a BLACK BEAR Borealis rechargeable flashlight.

Those putting down the Maglites probably have not tried the LED models. I own Streamlight, Surefire, and many other expensive flashlights and the 2 D-cell LED Maglites fit your criteria better than anything I can think of.
Brightness and illumination distance exceed many of the more expensive options listed. (and much less expensive)0
