Old Redfield (Browning?) .22 Scope Questions

I never saw one like it before. The feller I got it from swears it is a Browning scope. Until I saw this one, I didn't know Browning ever made or marketed a scope.

Scope is marked Redfield, but the objective and ocular bells fit the Browning box inserts perfectly.

So...experts...what do you think? And, what's it worth?

    The scope is a Redfield. Redfield did make scopes for Browning. The box is a Browning box and it fits the Redfield scope because Redfield made the Browning scope that should have come come in the box. Probably, someone at the Redfield factory put a Redfield marked scope in the box instead of one marked as Browning. It would have been an easy mistake to make as they made both brands. The value is hard to guess. They often sell under $100, but collectors value these and sometimes pay more on auction sites.

    I bought a nice one on ebay for $105 and felt lucky to get it. Seems the demand is quite high. As for the Browning version, theyre quite popular for those that have the little Browning 22 autos and they often sell for more than the Redfield even though the scopes are identical except for the Browning logo.

    I got one with Redfield rings very cheap when I bought my Browning 22 used. I figured it was hard to find but no idea it cost a fair amount. It's the perfect size for that little 22.

    i have a regular sized(one inch tube) 2x7 browning marked scope also made by redfield. eastbank.

    In his book Old Rifle Scopes Nick Stroebel describes the scope in question as a Sport-STER 4X Standard Eye relief Rimfire in production from 1965 to 1973 at a value of $100 to $150. The book is copyrighted 2000 so I suppose that would be Stroebels value estimate in that year. The same scope under the Browning label is valued at $60 to $125. I would expect the scope with the Browning name to bring more.

    I sold one with the Browning name about ten years back for $275.00. It was perfect in condition. At this time, I was buying the 4x Redfield in similar condition for about $150.00. I'd think, too, that the Browning scope box for one of these little jewels would be in demand by collectors as well...especially when in VG+ condition.
