S&W 32 caliber Top Break revolver - Year Made ??

Guys - I have a S&W Third or Fourth Model (I think) 32 S&W top break revolver with a SN# of 12913. Can anyone tell me the year this gun was manufactured?

  Hammer? Flayderman says it is a second model made only 1880-1882.
  Hammerless? First model, 1888-1902. I don't have the book to pin it down closer, but they made 91000+ of them, so yours would be pretty early.

  Sounds like 2nd model Guessing it was made 1881 serial number range for them was 31-22172

  Hawk and Savage - Thanks guys - From the description my FIL provided you hit the nail on the head....Second Model with a hammer...I will take a picture or two when I have the chance to see the gun and if it is different I will post the photos and open a new thread......Thanks again, Mark
