Stevens DOM help?
Good afternoon All ... I looked through the "sticky" posts at the top but didn't see a reference for Stevens Single Shot Rifles (e.g. Model 44). If anyone has a reference by book or website, please share. Thank you ... Joe

It is prety much impossible to come up with an exact production date for the early Stevens guns. The 44's were made from 1890 to 1947. The extractor location was changed from the 7 o'clock position to the 6 o'clock position shortly after 1900. The flat main spring was replaced by the coil main spring around 1916. Guns made from 1888 to 1915 are usualy marked J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co. Guns made from 1916 to 1960 are marked J. Stevens Arms Co. Hope this helpful. Single Shot Rifles and Actions by Frank de Haas and Savage & Stevems Arms Collector's History by Ja Kimmel are two reference books. There are others but they are harder to find and can get expensive. The folks at the ASSRA website are also helpful. Feel free to email me if I can be of further assistance. I have most of the Stevens reference books. 0
