selling black powder shotgun
Hello, I have a black powder shotgun that I need to sell for a friend. I know that an FFL is not needed for black powder but I also have to make sure the buyer is 18 years old or older as well. Is there any other concerns that I should be aware of? thanks.

It depends on the laws of the receiving state or locality. For example, NY State allows direct shipments to buyers but NY City requires it be shipped to an FFL dealer. New Jersey also requires an FFL dealer to receive blackpowder firearms.
Be sure to put in your auction: "BUYER ACCEPTS FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR COMPLIANCE WITH STATE OR LOCAL LAWS. COPY OF CURRENT DRIVER'S LICENSE OR GOVERNMENT ID REQUIRED FOR SHIPMENT."0 -
I live in NYC, and collect percussion Colt Revolvers. There is no state or local law requiring the shipment of antique or replica blackpowder weapons to an FFL in New York City. However, a couple of years ago, the NYC Police Department unitilatrally sent letters to all FFL's in the 4-state area (NY, NJ, CT,& PA)that they require all FFL's to require a NYC firearms license by the recipient of any blackpowder firearms. The promised serious repercussions for failure to comply. If one were to go to Police Headquarters in NYC (One Police Plaza) to inquire about obtaining a license for a blackpowder firearm, after getting a bureaucratic run around, you would be informed that there is no such thing. When I inquired about the FFL thing, I was told by a laughing officer that that was my problem.
Only the the PA FFL's for the most part, told the NYPD to go to h**l.
So, If you want to sell and ship an antique or replica blackpowder firearm directly to someone in NYC, What can they do to you?0 -
Black Powder guns are more restrictive than ammo.
You cannot ship to Calif, Delaware, Hawaii, Chicago,Il, New Jersey
New York City, Rhode Island, Tennessee, D.C., Mass, Canada, Puerto Rico.
I take this information off an online Sports retailer that sells black powder firearms, I didn't make this up.
If you ship it anyway after the buyer says it's Ok to ship there, and it's not, the legal problems just escalate if it's caught.

In IL, if you ship or recieve out of state it has to go to FFL no matter the "class" of firearm.
So, relics, modern, & BP all go to FFL's.
I'd use a FFL, he can probly provide cheaper shipping and it covers your/buddy's @ss![;)]0 -

If it is a muzzle loader, or made before 1899, by federal statutes, it is anything but a firearm. If it is a black powder cartridge replica made after 1898, then it is a firearm.
