Winchester 1902

I have a Winchester Model 1902 chambered in 22 Short, Long, or Extra Long. Can I shoot 22 Long Rifle rounds in this rifle?

  Good news, yes. The Extra Long is an old blackpowder rimfire, being longer in length but of same bullet diameter as the .22 L.R.
  
  If were my Win-1902, I'd give the ol' gal a break, though, and stay shy from the zippier .22 long Rifle ammo: Stingers, Yellow Jackets, etc.

  I thought I had heard that the LR would work, although no one had really explained the difference and/or similarity of the two cartridges. I doubt I'll put very many rounds through it, but it's short size makes it a fun one for the kids to shoot. You could call it a very, very early predecessor to the Chipmunk rifle. Thanks for the clarification.

  The interesting thing, is that the Model 1902 and 1904 were not chambered for the 22 Extra Long cartridge until 1914, and by that time, it was loaded with semi-smokeless powder. The 22 EX Long was dropped in 1927, and the 22 LR replaced it. There is no issue or problem with shooting standard velocity 22 LR in your rifle.
