Bolt Action
Hey guy's I have a Czechoslovakian 8mm Mauser, I was wondering if a bolt from a German K98 would fit, the reason I ask is because I would love to put a scope on this puppy but the existing bolt lever would hit the scope and hinder my ability to cycle rounds. I have a gun smith buddy who can do all the work but I wanted to see if it was possible to fit the bolt. IF not do I have any other options or am I poop out of luck, I know with the 91/30's they bend the bolt and use a threaded metal dowel of some sort which just seems kind of cheap to me but anyways was just curious if that would work and if not suggestions on what I could do. Input would be greatly appreciated. [?]

If your mauser is a large ring 98 type the bolt should fit, but should be checked for headspace. A FN mauser bolt should also work 0 -

Or use one of the mounts that replaces the rear sight and a long(er) eye relief scope... 0 -
Pay attention to the safety as well. Some Mausers need safety reworked so does not hit the scope. 0 -
If it's any help it's a VZ4 Rifle, I would like to turn it into a hunting rifle because it's dead on the money as far as accuracy goes, and quality is outstanding. 0 -
The bolts were made to fit pretty closely, so it probably will fit. There is about a 20% chance the headspacing will be close enough that you can use the bolt though.
If the headspacing isn't correct on the new bolt, it will be far less expensive to change the bolt handle on the one you have, vs. re-working the barrel/action so the new bolt will fit it {correctly}.0 -

The best method is to have the bolt handle cut off and a new, scope compatible one welded on. This will run somewhere north of about $50.00 sometimes including the bolt handle. If you have a style in mind, you should supply it after approval by the gunsmith. The person doing this work needs to have experience performing this work. Amateurs need not apply.
Forging the bolt handle is what used to be the most common solution. Many an amateur tried to cobble up a scope compatible bolt handle this way. They often ended up with some abomination which neither looked good nor functioned properly because it was ruined by a lack of experience and knowledge. Gunsmithing is not blacksmithing. The handle will end up being shorter than it should be for proper placement and convenient operation. They look stupid but it will work if this is the only way you allow it to be done.

Yes, some of those are great shooters, and the 8mm Mauser is an exceptional round for hunting, just about anything on the North American continent...with the exception of big bears.
Now, to your situation. I would take to a full service, EXPERIENCED gunsmith. He has the experience needed to make your rifle function properly, and look great...experience that the youtube video's don't give to the amatuers.
The advice given by Nononsense, and sandwarrior would be the advice I would take as gospel.
