Tap for the M1 garand gas tube
I picked up a couple M1 gas cylinders that had buggered up starting threads from some one cross threading the cylinder lock(plug) The spec's say I need a 9/16"x32 tpi. Any one know where I can purchase a tap? I contacted the CMP but they don't carry them for sale.OR would it be cheaper just to toss the parts out? Thanks for any advice.

I'd take photos of the gas cylinders, being sure to show the damage to the threads, & list them on GB. There are folks out there who will buy just about anything.

That's a special order tap size.
9/16" taps come in the standard 9/16"-12 for coarse and 9/16"-18 for fine thread.
I would bet because of the size and special order you are taking alot of money. About $90.00!!0 -
You can try Newman Tools Inc. at 800-465-1384 for taps. 0 -
also try MSC they are a supply house for industrial customers 0 -
Ordnance specs on the threads are 9/16-32 NS 3B Modified. I am not a machinist but I do know that every one of those numbers and letters means something very specific and anything other than that particular thread spec will result in failure. 0 -
