Seater/crimp die take 2

Ok, So when I thread in the seater/taper crimp die, I keep threading until it makes contact with the empty case. Then thread it back one complete turn then lock it. Then take my seater, and thread it in until I get the desired OAL.

Question:
When I thread the die, the case starts to spin freely on in the shell holder, has it made contact or I keep threading until it stops (stops threading)?

I have successfully figured out the sizing die (which I knew already) and the expander die. Hopefully I figured out this die.

I am still on a one stage press, I have not purchased lock and load press yet.


Thank you for your help. I think this one last question will clear up everything and I can start to enjoy my Kimber a little more.


P.S. I Love my kimber, it is a VERY fine machine.

  Hello you might want to look at the sticky about thoughts on taper crimping semi auto pistol ammo. above your post. Remember when you are seating a bullet the bullet continues to move until the bottom of the stroke of the handle . If you are trying to CRIMP at the same time you will form a ring of lead if loading lead bullets just in front of the case mouth . Taper crimp dies should be used to form their crimp in a separate operation not during seating All you want a taper crimp to do is close up the case mouth so it removes the BELL you formed before bullet seating. You want the case mouth to be roughly .001 of an inch smaller then the outside diameter of the case 1/4 inch below the mouth. This will make the cartridge tapered so it will feed into the chamber not hang up on the feed ramp.
