I have a Rockola M1 Carbine with the barrel stamped.

    I was wondering if anyone knew a left handed saftey lever is avalible for the M1 Carbine or if its possible for the existing lever to be fliped around so it can be better opperated by a left-handed shooter.

    Generally, no one will be able to accurately answer your question unless they see it.

    I advise you to post some good, close-up, sharp, well-lighted photos so those experts here can review them and give you good advice.

    Look at the permanent topics at the top of the Ask the Experts (ATE) column. One of those explains how to post photos.

    An alternative for you is to look on the GunBroker Auctions for similar weapons THAT HAVE SOLD (not for sale) to get a very rough idea of value. The weapon of your interest may or may not have something special about it to make it worth less or more.

    Wolf pretty much nailed it; without photos, we can't tell you much.

    But, you did give us 1 good clue: Inland made their own barrels, so the Buffalo barrel is a USGI replacement. So, the carbine may be worth < $700, but definitely not >$700.

    In addition to photos, remove the action from the stock & check all over the barrel & receiver for an import marking (name, city, & state), which is generally considered a sign that the Korean Army had its way with the rifle.

    Also, check the barrel for pitting & wear. A "poor man's muzzle wear gauge" is a single round of USGI .30-06 M2 ball, stuck point first in the muzzle; the amount of copper jacket showing will tell us how worn the barrel is.

    EDIT: Well, "It depends." A carbine "unissued since USGI arsenal rebuild" would be worth $1,000 to the right person.

    Thanks to you both. I am somewhat familiar with the M1's as I have 2. My research does not indicate that a Buffalo Arms barrel would have been original on an Inland. It could have been original on one of several other M1 manufacturers. I think the price is high for a non-original rifle. I have not seen the rifle, will try and get more info. Thanks again for responding.

    Again, we are seeing the rifle through your eyes. That you say $700 is too high for a re-work (legitimate US issue carbines are almost all reworks) is okay by me..because I havn't seen it!

    Many good shape carbines (US rebuilt) will go for greater than $700.

    This forum is informational to those who seek knowledge.

    Please post photos of just what you say won't be worth $700, so we can all learn from it. Thanks, Joe

    I would say the price should be around 550.00 and if you really like it 600.00. Your right the barrel was probably replaced when it was rebuilt. I have read some people getting pretty good groups with Buffalo Arms barrels. The Inlands bring the lower bucks unless in was made in the early months of production and has the original barrel.

    In way of a follow-up, I went to see said M1 today in an attempt to set my mind at ease that it may be in average condition. Givette's entry hit home and I thank him for it. My friend had the rifle of a local deceased vet. It is an Inland, serial number 869xxx, making it a 1942 or so manufacture (good I suppose). The stock has crossed arms cartouche on right side and IO on left. Rifle is in amazing condition. As the story goes, this vet used this gun for military competition shooting. Stock near perfect, all metal is amazing, barrel marked BUFFALO ARM 10-1943 with flaming bomb. Barrel not smooth but tooled (?), surface (kind of ribbed). Barrel in same amazing condition. Original sling marked S.M. with a date of 194?, also in near perfect condition. 2 mags, 1-Inland, 1-marked SS. Included his original USM4 bayonet in almost new condition marked Imperial. The near new leather grip has 12 stamped in it near the hilt. The sheath, like new like the rest is marked US M8A1 marked B.M. Co. Givette, you are correct in that I cannot post photos showing why it is not worth $700. It clearly is. However, he sold it to me for $600 for all plus 1 1/2 boxes of ammo. I will try and post photos next week. I am blown away by my good fortune in having a change to buy it. Thanks to all for your guidance.
