Donnie finally home from Laos
This one really touches home. I knew Donnie. So happy for the family to finally be able to put him to rest. RIP Donnie

Sergeant First Class Donald (Donnie) Shue, U.S. Army Special Forces, went missing in Laos in November 1969. Shue grew up in Concord, and moved to Kannapolis before entering the Army in 1967. His remains were recently located in Laos, are now in Pearl Harbor, and will arrive in Charlotte on April 29.
On Saturday, April 30, there will be a procession from Charlotte to Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis, with a stop in Downtown Concord for a presentation from the City, other government entities, and veterans groups.
Procession details
The procession will be escorted by the Concord Police Department, Kannapolis Police Department, and Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office, with support from the Charlotte-Mecklenberg Police Department and the North Carolina Highway Patrol. It is estimated that over 1,000 members of Rolling Thunder, Patriot Guard Riders, and other groups will participate in the procession on motorcycles. In addition, two U.S. Army North Carolina National Guard AH-64D "Apache" helicopters will join the procession convoy from the air.
The convoy will travel through Charlotte on I-85 north to I-485, and then take exit 33 onto NC Highway 49 North. From that point, the procession will:
Travel through Harrisburg on Highway 49 North
Exit onto Warren C. Coleman Boulevard
Bear right onto Union Street S
Stop in front of City Hall for the ceremony
After the ceremony, proceed to the end of Union Street N and turn right onto Buffalo Avenue
Turn Left onto Church Street N
Turn right onto Brookwood Avenue NE
Turn Left onto Branchview Drive NE
Continue onto Lake Concord Drive NE and into Kannapolis

I saw the parade, I heard the trucks and motorcycles.
Although we only knew him as a name, as one we saluted.
Many of those who knew his part in the war shed tears,
for him being lost, and ourselves guilty to have survived.
There is deep fulfillment in knowing that our holding fast
has been rewarded now; a comrade now rests at home.
There are more men to be to be found and returned, at last.
Our hearts burn with hope that each warrior's return will come.
We could wish for a better peace -- peace all over the world,
but we who served as he did are too old to be belligerents.
We still know well how to pray, as we did for him. "Oh God...."
...is all we can say, for it slips so readily out the lips.
