I HAVE A WINCHESTER MODEL 90 THIRD MODEL IN .22WRF WITH A ROUND BARREL -NOT OCTAGON. THE SERIAL NUMBER IS 580417 ON BOTH THE LOWER TANG AND UNDER RECEIVER MAKING THE MANUFACTURE DATE 1917. I CAN FIND NO ROUND BARREL 1890 RIFLES IN .22WRF - IS THIS A REBARREL? WINCHESTER LOGO MARKS ARE BOTH ON BARREL AND RECEIVER IN PROPER LOCATION. THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

Sorry, that barrel is round and most likely a replacement barrel which makes it worth little.
I know Winchester may have used some round barrels on some late run 1890's, but it would not have been an 1890 barrel.
Do you have photos of the lettering on the barrel?

Kevy, Hello: Your 1890 appears to be nice although the photos are not too clear. The round barrel WITH the serial no. of 136830 is an anomaly and the rifle very likely has a replacement barrel. Not unusual. Does the barrel have both a Winchester Proof AND a OP proof? The O with a P in the middle is a postal proof. Winchester sent such barrels to gunsmiths to replace barrels on the model 1890/90. The round barrels were from the Model 62 - 23 inches long. Winchester did produce factory correct round barrel model 90s (not 1890s) in the late years of production. Winchester also produced rifles with a Model 62 barrel inscription but with model 90 serial numbers. They are all collectible as they have a story to tell. 0 -

You apparently missed the fact that it is a Second Model 1890. Round barrels were never used on the Model "1890". When Winchester was near the tail end of the Model "90" parts clean-up production, a small number of 23-inch round barrels were installed, and nearly all of them were chambered and marked for the 22 Long R. cartridge.
The rifle in question has without a doubt been rebarreled with a mail order replacement (marked with a "P" in an oval), or a a Model 62/62A barrel. Regardless of which is the case, it is a $300 rifle on a good day in this economy.0 -
This is actually a late 3rd model front half (Barrel & Receiver) coupled to a 2nd model trigger guard. What is the serial number on the bottom of the receiver? By the tang marking i'm guessing this front half is late enough to be a factory round barrel. The mismatched numbers, however, kills the value. 0
