1894 Winchester "Bear Man of Alaska" rifle
Hello! I purchased an 1894 Winchester rifle in 32 special when I was visiting Alaska last year. It is in well used, original condition. After removing the buttplate, the stock end was hand carved and signed "A Hasselborg Juno". Upon researching who "A Hasselborg" was, we discovered he was Alan Hasselborg, AKA "The Bear Man of Admiralty Island". We would like to obtain more information on the rifle and get an idea of it's value if possible. Cody Wyoming has no records of the gun due to the records having been destroyed or lost for the time period of when the gun was made. We know from the serial number the gun was manufactured around 1924-1926. Can anyone suggest where we go from here to get an idea of value?

Just because it has Hasselborg's name in it doesn't mean it was his rifle. Fakers have been doctoring guns like this for many years. You have to research Hasselborg's life to find some sort of positive documentation that absolutely proves the rifle was his. 0 -
The value of the gun will be based on the graded condition and the specific configuration. The name "Alan Hasselborg" is unknown to 99.999% of the Winchester collecting community (myself included), and as such, it adds no value what-so-ever to the gun.
Provided with the serial number, I can tell you precisely when it was manufactured.
If you can post several clear close-up pictures of the gun, I can provide a reasonably close estimate of the value.0 -
