remove Stith mount/scope from Savage 99

    Strobel's book on scopes and mounts has a section on the Stith, "Master Mount". There is a sketch/diagram showing the mount on a bolt action rifle.

    It's extremely complicated mount with windage and elevation adjustments in the mount itself. Only one ring actually holds the scope. There is a large threaded screw in the rear of the front mount underneath the scope tube. This has to be unscrewed so that the scope can be pulled to the rear freeing it from the forward mount. Once the scope is out of the way the screws securing the mounts to the receiver can be accesses.
