257 Roberts Value

I have a Remington Model 700 ADL synthetic in 257 Roberts. I have all papers, box, etc. This gun has never been fired. What would be a fair trade-in value?

  Typically a trade in is about half of retail value . Being NIB you might get 2/3 . I would advise selling it outright , maybe on consignment . Either way , you will realize more return . The best bet is one of the auction sights like this one , .257s seem to sell well , especially Remingtons .

  What oneoldsap says is true for most rifles. However you have an unusual rifle. Remington 700's are not commonly chambered in .257 Roberts. So, it would likely get you more than you paid for it. Just because of that chambering.
  
  Now, if you go into a gun store and try to trade it in, they are going to get you as low as you will go. Which very well can be right in that 1/2-2/3 of original price. Just know that what you have is worth more than the average M700. And, more if you sell it outright.

  Yours may be a special order of some kind, because I don't remember the ADL Synthetic in that cartridge as a regular listing.
  
  
  I think they were limited run, but you could obviously special order them. You can get a new 'off the shelf' Rem 700 in .257 Roberts in wood and stainless steel, but they are spendy. Around $1100 if I remember right.

  257 Roberts in any Remington bolt gun is a hard find now days. You should be able to get the old list price for the rifle as a minimum.
  
  Aside from the old M-722, there weren't many 257's made on a regular basis by Remington. In 1982, Remington put out a Classic M-700 in 257 as a limited edition.
  
  Yours may be a special order of some kind, because I don't remember the ADL Synthetic in that cartridge as a regular listing.

  I forgot that Remington issued the M 700 CDL in 257 Roberts on a limited basis, recently. There are a number listed for sale on GunBroker. I still think that Remington should bring it out as a regular offering in the M 700 and 7.

  Don't leave it up to Remington to do anything right.... If they did start selling these again, it would sure be nice to get on in a 1-8" or 1-8.5" twist so we could shoot some of the heavier bullets that have come out. And, don't forget finally figuring out they need to put it in a long action would really, really help.
