Krag 1898 30-40 very high serial number
I recently received a Krag 1898 carbine. The serial number is 47919x.
The stock read 1901. I can't find anything out with that serial number. The book that I have says the serial numbers should only go to 477 thousand. Mine is 2 thousand over. I checked the web which says the same. I'm not sure then what I have. It is clearly marked 1898 and thenm the serial number. Can anyone help explain or point me a direction. Thanks

I show a manufacture date of 1903. The final Krag serial number was approximately 480,000 prior to the introduction of the US Model 1903 Springfield.
I suspect you may have a converted rifle as a carbine made that late would be a Model 1899. However, I suppose the Springfield Arsenal could have been using up old parts during the final run of Krags. Pictures of all markings and the stock would help.0
