colt 1892 .41 cal.
i had the opportunity to briefly inspect this revolver the other evening (1892 colt DA .41 cal. s/n 11706). this revolver did not have the conversion 'pin' under the cylinder release latch that i have seen on most pictures of the early DA colts. the revolver has been re-finished (looks like bad old cold bluing/browning) in the past and has somewhat faint top barrel markings left from the polishing. grips are brown plastic type, 1892 marked and in very good condition. barrel is dirty and may even be pitted. the exterior was clean, screw heads were not messed with and it was functioned properly. the end cap was missing from the cartridge ejector rod. without pictures will you /can you estimate a value for the revolver? anything special about not having the conversion pin under the cylinder release?

With that serial number most likely Black Powder era revolver. That and the refinishing would negatively affect it's collectors value. Your looking at something that has virtually no collectors value, and would be questionable as a shooter even if you could lay your hands on low pressure 41 LC ammo. Unless you could get into it dirt cheap buying it as a conversation piece/wall hanger, don't even think about buying it. Probably be worth more for parting out then anything else. 0 -
Colt .41 LDA is about $75 a box of 50. 0 -
In that condition I wouldn't pay over $200 and that is pushing it. You can find ones in better condition. The 1892 isn't especially collectible(compared to other Colts including the 1877 & 1878 DA's).
The other downside is unless you reload, shooting the .41 Long Colt will get $$$ in a hurry. Ammo is available from Midway by Ultramax and Ten X at $75 & $83 respectively for a box of 50. Both loads use smokeless powder but per the manufacturer are loaded to safe levels in vintage guns for the Cowboy Action shooters.0
