Thinking about getting a 20 caliber varmint rifle. Question: get a 204 Ruger or a 20 Practical?

This is one of those balancing situations. Either one will get the job done and either one is available and easy to reload for as long as the brass is available.
The .223 Rem. brass has been and will be around a long time. The basic process is to simply neck down the brass and load bullets.
The .204 Ruger is factory available but can also be made from .222 Remington Magnum cases. These have become a seasonal offering from Remington so the supply will get spotty on occasion. Plan ahead and buy in bulk. I bought several thousand cases when they went on sale a few months ago. But I use them for a selection of wildcats besides the original chamber.
Personally, I'd run with the .20 Practical.

To create 20 Practical cases, just buy a .223 Rem Redding Type "S" Bushing Die set with a .230 or .228 bushing and have fun.
In essence, one of the other cost savings is in not having to buy special or custom dies. Pick the brand you like and get the right size bushing.
