    The newer ones have a serial number on the left side of the receiver, above the trigger, just forward of the stock. Not sure about the earlier models though?

    EDIT #1, Appears that you have somewhat of a problem. If there isn't a visible serial number on the receiver, most likely somebody removed it. Not likely it could have got out of FN and to the States without a SN.

    That's where the numbers were on the Bar I had also, prob bout a 2000'

    The serial number on my Browning BAR, that I purchased new in 1978, is located on the right side of the receiver, above the handguard.

    You need to ask who ever refinished the gun what the serial number was. Your wood is sanded WAY below the back edge of the reciever and the blueing "looks" redone as the barrel proof stamp is a bit washed out. SN could have been sanded off.
