Winchester 71 deluxe help please

Friend in financial trouble, has decided to try to keep his father's Colt but maybe sell this rifle. His father bought it new in early 50's. Looks almost flawless except for water stain on butt as show in pictures. What is ball-park value to list this at for a very quick/fair sale? I do not believe we have time to run a full auction.

  I'd say its worth around $2000, as is. I just bought a Deluxe 71 quite a little better than that one for $2800 a couple weeks ago. For a quick sale and a lot of attention, list it around $1500 with no reserve and see where it goes.

  Unfortunately I don't see a collector springing big bucks for it unless he has a original replacement Model 71 deluxe stock to make it right.
  
  In my experience cosmetics is everything to these guys who collect high dollar Winchesters, Colts etc. As far as they would be concerned, because of the stock it would only be considered a shooter and be valued accordingly.
  
  
  EDIT #1, Years ago when I was still living in cali I use to have trouble with mold growing on wooden stocks. I used bleach to treat the areas with mold, it worked pretty good. Have your friend try some bleach on the bad area of the stock, what's he have to lose?

  Rufe-snow is correct... most collectors will steer clear of the rifle due to the damaged butt stock. I have to question how the stock is damaged but the butt plate is not?
  
  The value is somewhere in the $1000 - $1500 range in my opinion.

  To the best of my knowledge, all of the Model 71 butt plates were checkered steel (identical to those used in the pre-64 Model 70s).
