While I (like you) rarely reload this cartridge, I have a few guns that don't like easily obtained surplus.

For cast lead I use a Lyman 314299 over either 18 gr of 2400 or 22 gr of IMR 4759. For jacketed, I have tried the IMR 4350 load you state with good results in some guns. In others I do a case full of IMR 4891 or about 55 gr of H-414. I've found the long barrels and large diameter cartridges work really well with the slower powders.

Best bullets for jacketed seem to be the .312" hornadys either in the 150 or 170 gr range, if your bore measures a bit on the fat side as most of mine do. Otherwise the little .310 Hornady 123 grainers often do well with a little faster powder- say 4320 or 4064.

Thanks for the interesting information, jonk. It seems that you have considerable experience in loading this round. I look forward to trying some of your tips.
