Cut Barrel threading question
Is there a common thread for pistol barrels.
.44 has a bulge and needs to be cut out and re threaded.
Any clues on how to best approach?

Depending on the revolver,i.e. make, model, value etc. Probably be more cost effective to get a replacement barrel. Hourly rate for a skilled gunsmith/machinist, sure ain't cheap nowadays. 0 -

They have been out of production for at least 15, maybe 20 years. You might try the various net parts houses to see if you can get a replacement barrel.
Don't know what a original Virgina Dragoon would be going for nowadays, to see if it would be worth putting the money into fixing it? Might be better off selling it like it is and buying a Ruger, instead of putting more money into it then it's worth.0 -

No common revolver threads. I'm guessing you have a lathe to do this DIY otherwise it's a no go. Once you have the barrel removed from the frame you will be able to measure the thread dimensions.As you may know, there is a lot more that goes into fitting a barrel to a revolver than removing the old one and screwing in the new one.
You will definitely save considerable money by doing it yourself. Best of luck.0
