I have a Mauser 98, Amberg 1915, SN 9066 all numbers match, no cleaning rod, have muzzle cap/front sight cover, weapon is in extremenly good condition all markings are legible, bore has some erosion. Would like estimate of market value.

    Thanks, TTrox

If you no for a fact that the rifle is arsenal original and hasn't been reworked/rebarreled? It would be rifled for the old .317 dia. bullet if it doesn't has a letter "S" stamped on top of the chamber, and on top of the barrel behind the rear sight.

EDIT #1, Safest thing to do is to slug the barrel, with a soft lead slug or round ball. Something in the neighborhood of .330 in dia. would be the best size.

In addition to the 4mm or so "S" above the makers name on the receiver, check the settings of the rear sight. 400 metres should be the lowest setting you can set vice the original .318 200 metres.

It has a letter S directly behind the markings for the rear sight. Also 400 meters is the least the sight can be set for.Does this mean I can shoot the new style 8mm mauser ammo? Don't see a S on top of chamber.
