Springfield Armory 1898
Hey guys. I know this is a model 1898 but I was trying to find a value in the book and the book is heavily emphasizing that many of these have been altered or modified and aren't original or even fake. Can anyone tell just by looking at the pictures I've taken, what it is exactly that I have here and whether it's all original or not? Thanks so much!

It appears you have a cutdown rifle stock. Model 1898 carbines had saddle rings and bars, not sling swivels. Also, the wood in front of your barrel band appears too short, the finger grooves too long and narrow, and there is no top wood.
See the picture below of an authentic 1898 carbine and a Model 1898 rifle.

The serial number of the carbine your inquiring about is in the 3053XX range. "Flaydermans Guide", notes that only 5,000 Model 1898 Krag carbines were manufactured, and they were in the 125,000-135,000 serial number range. 0
