Picture is necessary.Finish condition is critical for value.
Who did the barrel change and are there any marks from it?

That seems strange. Barrels on this gun are not user-replaceable, it must be done by a gunsmith. The barrels likely can't be used on another gun, & I would be wary of damage to any frame that has had multiple barrels R & R'ed multiple times. I can't imagine that the Colt Custom Shop would do this, & I don't know many gunsmiths who I would trust to do this.

You also want to show us the grips. Are they Colt, & have they been fitted to the gun? This makes a big difference, as some Colt grips from that period are valuable, but not so much if they have been fitted to this gun or another gun.

Also, did the gun originally come with the short barrel? I don't know the answer to whether or not Colt used a shorter ejector on short barrel SAA's.

The extra Barrels FITTED gives me cause for alarm. I don't think Colt ever set up any pistols with Extra Fitted barrels . UNLESS the Gun Smith was very good he or she could Hurt the value over a pistol with only one barrel from the factory. . If you look here at second gen Pistols that have been sold you will see a factory BLACK box with other paperwork go for north of $200.00 if the box matches the serial number of pistol $250.00 + if the box label matches the configuration of the pistol now I would put the extra barrels up for sale separate. The colt SAA is NOT a Dan Wesson "PISTOL PACK " made to swap barrels. Pistol alone in 95% is worth north of $2000.00

He hopes to try to keep the pistol if he can swing it, I don't blame him for that. He says he is not sure if the other barrels were ever put on, but he has receipts from a smith who "fit" them to the Colt, whatever that means. The serial and barrel length matches info on box.

All things be equal and if in real good condition easy $900 to $1100. If it has been mucked around with, then it is only a shooter and it will bring what it will bring. You need to inspect it closely.
