Value of older Ithaca 37

I just picked up an Ithaca model 37 featherlight from an elderly gentleman who said he bought it new around 1961 or 62 , although he didn't keep the box or hang tags from it , the shotgun remains unfired ( so I'm told and it does not appear to be fired )

It has a 28" plain mod. choked barrel with the Raybar front sight , engraved reciever and plain wood stocke ( no checkering ) and the honeycomb styl forearm .

the gun is as perfect and near mint as I ever seen .

I paid $350 for it and was wondering if that price was in the ballpark of it's worth .

Also the ser. no. is 670098 -2 would this put it around 1961 or 62 ?

  They are very good guns but don't seem to bring a lot of money. You paid high retail.

  You got a excellent shotgun at a great price. Congratulations! A 50 year old M37 in like new condition is very hard to come by. I hope you enjoy it.

  According to my references, 670098 was made in 1957. The dash number (-2) was Ithaca's code for modified choke. FWIW: 0=cyl., 1=imp. cyl., 2=mod., 3=imp. mod., 4=full, S=skeet.
  
  You didn't mention the gauge of your new gun. I like 37's, too; I often hunt with a 16 ga. and there's a 12 ga. near the door in case I need a shotgun in a hurry.

  I have a mod 37, DS Police Special, 8 shot. I bought this in the late 70's. At the time it was superior to most of its competitors.I believe $350 is a great price. I wouldn't consider selling mine for $350.
  Not that it matters, but the 37 is the only pump that you can squeeze the trigger once, and it fires every pump.

  Actually, the Winchester 12's and 97's will "slam-fire", too. The later Ithacas would not slam-fire; the hammer would just follow the breech block and not fire if you didn't release the trigger. You then had to get your finger off the trigger, work the slide, eject the shell, and start over. I thought that was a dumb design. Imagine that in a defense situation!
