Sword Identification - Pics - very unique
Would anyone be able to help with identification and value of this sword? I came across it when I was out picking up an estate sale. I am not a sword collector but it's a very interesting piece. Any help is and guidance appreciated.

WOW that looks like the real deal NOT something made for tourist trade. I would say Turkish or Indonesia but some one will be able to give you correct I.D. 0 -
Its very interesting, particularly the Star of David insignia on the blade. I wonder if it came from Palestine, or was held at one point by a Jewish army or militia!
Anyway, Perry Shooter hit the X=ring here. The design is that of a Turkish saber, sometimes known as a "Yataghan". The ivory/bone femur shaped hilt is typical of this design.
These were used in Turkey and all over the Turkish/Ottoman empire, including most of the Middle east (including Palestine/Israel) and Northern Africa, particularly in the 18th-19th century.
I have no idea what its worth, but I agree, it does look like the "real deal" as a true antique, rather than a modern "wall hanger" recreation for tourist sale.

Thanks for the help guys. You pointed me in the right direction determining it is a Yataghan. From the info I gathered here I also posted it on a sword forum. Seems like this is a quite an interesting piece! When I find out more, I'll post another thread. Thanks again, Brett. By the way I have like 10 other swords I have no idea what they are. Speaking for myself here (and maybe some others as well)... I'd appreciate seeing photos of your other pieces as well ... if you are willing to post or send photos by email.
This one may be the most unusual and/or interesting to you, but quite often when a person has one of quality, interest or value ... others in that same persons collection are bound to be of some significance as well.
I may have misunderstood ... but believe that you acquired more than this single blade from the single source, correct?
I'm glade to see that you got a lot of right-on feedback from folks. A bit gratified also in seeing that I was not off as to the region of origin.
It is to me very intriguing and would seem to have some interesting history from creation until this time and place. [^]
