It's probably a inexpensive spur trigger revolver, that are known to collectors as "Suicide Special's." They were made by many different manufacturers, and generally date to the 1870's/80's time frame. Unless it's factory original NIB not going to be worth a heck of alot, although the ones in larger calibers such as yours tend to bring more money as their not as common.
EDIT #1, Avenger is one of the names used by Hopkins and Allen on their "Suicide Specials". Although they weren't located in N.Y., rather in Conn.
It appears to be in Very Good condition for a large caliber "Suicide Special", which would tend to enhance it's value. After 130+ years a lot that turn up are pretty well thrashed.0
