  Depending on condition, the 226 sells for $400.00-$650.00 where I live. I say by it RIGHT NOW!

  He must really be hurting.
  Two questions:
  Do you know he came by it honestly? That is SUCH a low price you have to think about where it came from.
  
  Do you know what he will do when he gets back on his feet? Is he going to want to buy the gun back for the same low price? What will you say then?

  Honestly, I wouldn't do that to my friend. I'd give him more, just so that *I* could sleep better at night.
  
  Assuming they're factor mags, and the gun is in decent shape, $500 would still be a great price for what you'd be getting, I think.
