Need Opinion on GB# 247595811

Remington 700 in 270 Win. Cannot find out if this stock is wood or synthetic?? Also looks like re-barreled? This might be a "good buy" IF real wood! THANKS!!!!

    I would contact the seller with specific questions regarding the material the stock is made of. Condition of bore, and if the barrel is original. Also if there is a inspection period and refund if the rifle doesn't check out per his response. If he can't or won't respond to you forget about it.

    IMHO the auction add appears to be deliberately ambiguous. Either the seller doesn't have a clue, or he's a gamer trying to foist off a turd. The old adage about when a deal looks to good to be true, it usually is would apply here.

    Looks pretty good.
    Not trying to do the guy's advertising for him but I do not know of a Remington 700 with wood-grained synthetic stock.
    The rosewood foreend tip and grip cap without white line spacers and high polish blue look like a 700C to me. That is a pretty high end model and a good buy IF I am right, IF it is original, and IF it is internally in good condition.
    Big IFs, best make sure what you are looking at, per rufe.

    I wonder why people put cheap scopes on nice rifles.
    The Weatherby with a Tasco used to be a standing joke around here.

    Was wondering that as well, seems sometimes the more expensive the rifle the cheaper the scope gets. If your going to invest in a fine rifle at least put a decent scope on it as well, at least imho.
    Another weird thing too is how there will be clear pictures and then conveniently blurred pictures, whats with that, might as well say 'mine field' or something. There was one guy with a mint scoped target rifle who blew a gasket because he was asked to replace the blurred pics with clear ones and then blocked the potential bidder and said that you don't want this rifle, its rusted, pitted, cracked etc, when asked, however needless to say no purchase. I would agree rufe-snow's 'deliberately ambiguous' would apply here as well or its at least somewhat suspicious anyway.

    FOLKS....THANKS!!!! The owner FINALLY got back to me....his answer: "Looks like wood, but I think it's PLASTIC!!!"

    There is one way to find out if it is wood, and that is take it out of the stock. That will tell it all. It percieves to look loke a CDL stock, and could be a 700 CDL, but would need better pictures to tell that. Usually one does not see a forend tip on a synthetic stock, wood grained or not. Ask for more pictures of the stock, and of the barrel markings.

    I would consider the scope as a throw away, of little or no value, on a rifle of that quality.

    Swift scopes are actually pretty good optics. USA made glass, with lifetime warranty...That grain looks to good to be true..Still good rifle for the money its at...imo...of course.
