1873 TRAPDOOR CARBINE HELP
Have a 1873 Springfield Carbine 45-70. All markings are correct. Serial number 120***. Every one I have looked at has a saddle ring set up on left side and this one doesn't.Did they make these guns without the saddle ring setup ? Thanks..

All original trapdoor carbines had a saddle bar & ring. Most "carbines" are cutdown rifles.
Remove the barrel and look at the inside of the stock. There's probably the remains of a ramrod channel plugged with wood or filler.
I would really like to see pics if you have them.0 -
If I interpreted the production information on the Trapdoor Collectors website correctly, and that is iffy at best, it suggests that there weren't any Carbines produced between serial number 108,000 (end of 1878) and serial number 127,000 (end of 1879).
