What does a Model 1890 "A" suffix mean?
Can anyone out there tell me what the "A" suffix after the serial number on a Winchester Model 1890 designates? Thank you in advance for the response!

Hello coice,
It simply means that it is a Model 1890 versus a Model 1906 (which were marked with a letter "B").
Winchester used the letters "A" and "B" to differentiate which receiver frames were to be assembled as a Model 1890, or as a Model 1906.0 -

My guess is that it was mismarked at the factory.
Model 1906 90100 was serialized in October of 1907, which is very close to the time when Winchester first began marking the Model 1890 receivers with an "A" and the Model 1906 receivers with a "B". The Model 1890 receivers did not have the "A" marked on them until the serial numbers were very close to the 350,000 range.0 -
