Look at this Winchester 1894 Takedown and crate. Looks like a very rare combination. Pretty nice.

  Pretty impressive. It does look like the rifle has been used, though. Still impressive with all the backup, if all is legitimate.
  
  Pictures would have to be a lot better though, to generate my interest in buying. A lot of research to do.

  It looks to me like a accumulation of stuff that was bought separately over the years them merged with the Winchester with the idea of jacking up the price. This is quite a common thing to do, as far as scalpers are concerned. Lot more salable IMHO specially at that price, if the Winchester was in better condition.

  Although, it looks to have all original equipment, it looks like it has been reblued before. There are too many suspicious things that would have to be cleared up. If it were mine, I would have a factory letter, proving it is, what I said, if proclaiming what the seller does in this auction.

  Looks original to me...not enough bluing remaining to have been reblued. Barrel seems to match, I do not think it is a mail order. The receivers lost more bluing during this period of manufacture. I wonder if it would letter? The info on the crate checks out.

  Do you see that scaling under the bluing on the barrel? Do you see how the takedowm boss, that holds the barrel and magazine tube, does not exactly match the reciever? Notice that all of the pictures are just far enough away that you can't really see close up? If it were a rifle that was on the up and up, then it most likely would have a factory letter, which it does not.
  
  If it looks good to you, and you want it, then go for it. I wouldn't lean on it as an investment that you're going to double your money on, because it is not going to happen, unless you have a naive buyer that does not know what he is looking for. JMHO.

  This Model 1894 (serial number 487716) is outside the range of serial numbers (1-353999) that can be found in the warehouse records; only the polishing room records are available to note when the receiver was serialized.

  The receiver frame has positively been buffed & polished and refinished at some point in its past.
