I tried a 91/30 bayonet on a model 38 and a 91/59. In both cases the sight base was too big to fit the cut out channel of a 91/30 bayonet. But it looks like a little work with a Dremel could open it up enough to work.

  Thanks posh I really appreciate that and it would be nice to have an M38 setup just like the much longer M91/30 and not having to register it in 2 zipcodes, lol.

  Posh since you seem to have everything needed, hypothetically if the front sight band was removed then is the front site still attached to the barrel like on the M91/30 or would it come off or are you able to tell?

  Not to jump this thread, but the real good pistol to have in 10mm, would be the HK Mk23 SOCOM. It has it all. EAA does make a full sized Witness with a steel frame in 10mm, and a 6 inch barrel for hunting too.

  Okay thanks tsr1965, but I think I am over the metal frame gun only old school ideology, just took a little bit is all, lol. I can also just use a Glock 6" drop in barrel for the Glock 20 as well iinm. I will look at the HK line of pistols as well though too however they are a bit spendy iirc but very nice of course.

  Juggernaut: On the M38 there is no dovetail to hold the sight base like there is on the 91/30. So if the band were removed, there wouldn't be anything to hold the base on, unless it's soldered etc. The M38 barrel was machined to accomodate a cylindrical band with the back of the cut acting as a stop for the sight band. So if you took the band off it would leave an ugly cut on the barrel. Another thing to consider is that the part of the 91/30 bayonet that goes around the barrel forward of the sight is longer than the M38 barrel forward of the sight. The part of the bayonet that surrounds the barrel would extend about 5/8" beyond the end of the M38 barrel. Let me know if there's any more information you'd like to have. Regards, posh.

  Hmm, thought for sure that it would work but apparently it won't without major modifications and I wont ruin a gun for that and would only do minor changes so as not to ruin the firearm itself. Thanks alot posh, I really appreciate the help.
