Wrong Type Of Payment
I listed a gun with the payment specified in the description as Postal Money Order Only the buyer sent me a chase online bill payment check I checked with Chase and it is a valid account my bank Webster told me it could take up to 2 weeks for the check to clear because its out of state. I emailed the buyer and told him I could not ship the gun until the check clears ( no response yet ).Has anyone ever had to deal with this.
Thanks John

you have done the obvious. His problem and you have worked to solve it and communicated wtih him. Looking good. 0 -
Had this happen to me on Fleabay just told the buyer he's going to have to wait until the check clears. I also doubt that it would take 2 weeks to clear. A personal check now a days takes regardless if in or out of state, not more then 4 days to clear as everything is done electronically now. Years ago that may have been the case but not now. How ever I still would not ship until it clears. 0 -
He can't seem to follow instructions. Incorrect payment, you did him a favor and cashed it anyway. If he doesn't like it, at this point he can pay to 'undo' it. If he's okay with it, then ship it in two weeks when his check clears. His bank as well as yours. If it was a cashiers check and your bank could verify right away, then I would ship as soon as that cleared. But, with a personal check? Not until it clears. And, I would check with my bank still before I shipped the firearm. 0 -
i have recieved bank checks like that with no problem some folks do everything on the computer(pay bills send checks)the rest of like the old fashioned way 0 -
I get checks from out of state every week at work. It usally takes no more than four working days to clear. If the guy cant read the directions you stated, Then he is just going to have to wait. You are doing him a favor. If it is an inconvinence to you, Next time dont except a check and send it back. You were very generous in your decision. Oak 0 -
I sold a drum mag the other and stated to pay by post office money order or certified check. Got a Western Union MO. Called local places that have them and was told that if it was bought there they will cash them [xx(] What a bunch of BS.
As luck had it my bank cashed it, and it cleared OK.
It seems like some buyers don't or can't understand instructions [V]0 -
Thanks I emailed him and told him I will void this check If he wanted to send a PMO or he would have to wait until the check cleared.I am guessing it wont take 2 weeks but that is what my bank said it could take. Also I am sure the check is good and will clear no problem but still not going to take chances. 0 -
Good grief! Western Union figures prominently in just about every scam I've heard of. With me, anyway, their reputation has taken so many hits, that I'd laugh if I got a Western Union payment. It would be very difficult for me to trust them. 0 -
I always make it clear in my auctions, that I will not ship the merchandise, untill the funds clear. I prefer USPS money orders, but will accept a Cashiers Check from a bank. However, the Cashier's check also has a time period for acceptance. On some items that are not firearm related, I accept Pay-Pal.
You went above the call of duty by accepting his payment, which was not a listed method in your auction. He can wait untill it clears...plain and simple.

Postal MO may be the safest from the standpoint of validity but if it gets lost or the seller is running a scam, it's just gone. USPS cares nothing about it beyond selling the product. Problems they just dump on to the FBI. You can never find anyone in USPS to even discuss it. This from my experience.
Bank cashier checks are easily forged but most banks can clear or validate one by a phone call. They do have some kind of tracking and history network.
Probably safest and can be quickest is bank-to-bank wire transfer. It requires exchange of banking dara such as account numbers, etc. which some seem reluctant to do. Cost me $12 but can be done in one day. Worth the effort if a lot of money in play. It at least has some ID and sight of individals and existence of bank accounts, etc, all of which missing with USPS MO and cashier check.0
