NC STAR Rifle Scope
I'm looking for a scope for my SKS. Would be willing to spent $150 to $200 on a Red Dot Type scope. Would you recommend NC STAR or a different manufacturer?

The problem with red dots or scopes on SKS's, is mostly how you mount them. No sense in putting big bucks in either if you plan on mounting them on the receiver cover, which isn't stable.
You will have to have to either have receiver D & T'd, which ruins the SKS's future value to military rifle collectors. Or get one of the "scout" mounts that replaces the rear sight. With this type of mount you have to use a optic or red dot that has long eye relief.0 -

A different manufacturer (ie skip NCStar).

EDIT: NCSTAR dot scopes are really low end. They don't have precise adjustment, and they don't hold a zero all that well. They also lack battery saving circuitry meaning its REALLY easy to accidentally deplete the batteries. They'e good for airsoft, and maybe BB pistols.
Burris makes some excellent reflex dot scopes in the $160 range, and they also make excellent entry level fixed 4x20 glass scopes in that range too. These will have excellent optics, good adjustment, be recoil resistant, and carry lifetime guarantees. Try there, and I guarantee you you will not be disappointed.0 -
every N.C.Star of any kind I have ever seen during SUGHTING in Days was a POS get any other brand. 0 -
In general I agree; however I know a guy who has a higher end NC Star (if you can call any scope under $200 that) on his Savage LRPV in 22-250 and shoots dime sized groups at 300 yards. Hit and miss I guess. 0 -
Apparently the non adjustable NC Star 4x power scopes are supposed to be okay for that low end bracket of scopes and its the adjustable models that seem to have the problems; There are obviously much better made brands of scopes but pay close attention to the different warranties as some of the higher priced scopes made may play games with warranties. If you want a rock solid scope mount and scope aside from the whole red dot thing for the sks a P/U scope and mount normally found on Mosin Nagant M91/30 sniper rifles fitted to the sks rifle by a competent gunsmith functions and looks right for the rifle. 0
